Magic Unfolds With A Little Serendipity

Last weekend, I unexpectedly met a young woman who had recently moved from Bali to the United States. As we talked, she shared pieces of her story with me… and I was amazed by how closely it mirrored that of Mara in Grand Illusion.

I signed a copy of the book for her, and when I asked who she would like it made out to, she said “Kadek,” the Balinese name often given to a second child.

I smiled and told her, “I know. Mara’s cousin in the book is named Kadek.” What began as a chance meeting felt like recognition. I think I made a long-lasting friend that day… and she found a small piece of home❤️
