Spotlight on SARAH as a Main Protagonist in the Annie’s Journey Series
Annie first met Sarah in Book 1, Beyond the Sea, during the early part of her journey when she accepted El Amir’s invitation to visit East Africa. He mentioned thinking Annie would like Sarah who was living there in a tent, painting wildlife and finding her way as a talented artist. Initially, Annie and Sarah seem unlikely to form a friendship, but getting to know each other they realized they had a great deal in common on a deeper level. (Sarah will get this same feeling later in the series when she meets Elena, the elusive Arab heiress.)
The common thread between these young women is their quest for self-discovery, and eventually romance. In Beyond the Sea, Sarah uses zebras as an analogy of her and Annie’s friendship when she gave Annie and painting of two zebras interacting on the plains.
“Look closely. Although their stripes may be different on the outside, their inner nature is entwined with each other. That is like us, Annie. You may leave tomorrow, but know that I will never be far from your side.”
The friendship between Sarah and Annie is a strong one, but it is not until Book 3, Finding Sarah: A Phoenix to Behold, that we learn the gripping back story that has brought Sarah to the time in Africa when they met, and ironically it would be the friendship with Annie that allows her a second chance at true love.
